Wound Care

Some wounds like pressure sores are difficult to heal. Others such as burns or ulcers might suffer tissue disruption or infection when cleansed or treated with a topical medication. PeopleFirst Pharmacy tackles these problems with an experienced hand in tailored wound-care. Each type of wound requires its own type of topical, transdermal, or other delivery formats. Our compounding pharmacists know how to use very specialized dressings, ointments, gels and bandages. These include the chemically neutral gels (for burn wounds) and or the “polyox bandage” for special applications where traditional wound covering methods are not appropriate.

Wound care compounding involves several approaches and medications applied topically. Some of the medications are designed with the goal of stimulating new tissue growth, reducing pain, and discouraging bacterial overgrowth. Other medications are designed to increase blood flow to the wound and are applied to the skin that borders the wound.
